Inca Fruit - Peruvian groundcherry
While writing I did a little research on where Andean Bears are from and they live in Andean countries in South America. Specifically in the eastern region of the Andes Mountains. A common wild berry in this region is the Inca Berry.
An Inca Berry, also known as a Peruvian ground cherry, is a relative of the Tomatillo. This round fruit is like a small berry similar to a small yellow tomato. Knowing I wanted to find something fun and colorful to provide in the book, I chose this berry as the feature.
Do I know if the Zoo shipped or grew these types of berries for our beloved Ben? No, I do not. It was a part of my creative liberties as a writer.
So, now you know what snack Ben is eating a snack after being returned to his habitat.
